Essendon midfielder Mitchell Hibberd has suffered a setback and will undergo knee surgery.
The Bombers have confirmed that the 23-year-old suffered a meniscus injury at training.
Essendon General manager of football Dan Richardson said they expect Hibberd to be available for the Marsh Community Series.
“Mitch underwent minor surgery earlier this week to clean up damage he suffered to his meniscus,” Richardson told the club’s website.
“He is in great spirits post-surgery and we expect him to progress his rehabilitation over the next six weeks before reintegrating into full training.”
The Bombers picked Hibberd up with the 10th pick in the 2019 rookie draft.
He played four games for North Melbourne in 2017 and spent 2018 in the VFL with Williamstown.
