Harley Bennell’s bid to revive his AFL career with Melbourne has taken a reported hit.
According to the Herald Sun and SEN Breakfast’s Sam Edmund, Bennell has suffered a minor left calf strain in what could be a cruel blow in his endeavours to join the Demons.
The former Sun and Docker has been training with Melbourne in the hope of earning a rookie contract via the pre-season supplemental selection period.
Bennell, 27, hasn’t played at AFL level since 2017 and managed just two games in four injury-ravaged years at Fremantle.
The former No.2 draft pick underwent two rounds of surgery on his troublesome calf and has worked closely with Geelong-based sports physiotherapist and renowned calf guru, Peter Stanton.
March 13 is when the pre-season supplemental selection period shuts.
