Harley Bennell’s most recent calf injury is seemingly not as bad as it was first reported.
The 27-year-old is attempting to earn a spot on Melbourne’s list by training with them over the summer and it was reported earlier in the week that the latest calf setback may put a serious dent in that endeavour.
However, Garry Lyon has heard otherwise.
“I believe the calf is not as bad as some doomsayers are suggesting and that he may be running as early as tomorrow,” he told SEN Breakfast.
“He’s still got a lot of work to do obviously, he’s a mile away from getting back into it.
“There were reports when he did the calf that this what it and it was the end and all that sort of stuff, but it’s my understanding that he could be running tomorrow.”
Bennell has not played at AFL level since 2017, dealing with ongoing injury issues in his time with both Gold Coast and Fremantle.
He has until March 13 to earn a spot via the pre-season supplemental selection period.
