Are the Dockers set to move Jesse Hogan on?

2020-02-05T15:25+11:00

Jesse Hogan may have played his final game for Fremantle according to Western Australian journalist Kim Hagdorn.

Hagdorn believes that the Dockers are ready to move Hogan on just one season after he joined the club from Melbourne.

Hogan is currently taking time away from football to focus on his mental health and general wellbeing.

On 6PR’s Breakfast with Steve and Basil, co-host Basil Zempilas posed the question - Would Fremantle be doing the right thing cutting him loose?

“My understanding is that it’s getting closer to that,” Hagdorn replied.

“Fremantle have to make some agreement with Jesse Hogan and his management and certainly the AFL Players Association (are) playing a part in this.

“But it’s as high as the new coach Justin Longmuir with respect to some of the deputations he’s had and some of the discussions he’s had with some of his senior players.

“The decision looks as though it’s going to head towards Fremantle moving Jesse Hogan on.

“I don’t think Jesse Hogan will play for Fremantle again.

“He’s been on shaky ground for 12 months since he’s been there, from coaching staff particularly, and certainly some of the senior players.

“It’s been ongoing, he’s been a repeat offender of undisciplinary acts. The club’s had to take some action, at times they’ve denied all that.

“This is one that we have to tiptoe around because of the mental health circumstances surrounding all this.”

Hogan is contracted with the Dockers until the end of 2021 and Hagdorn believes there wouldn’t be much of a negative impact to the club from a financial viewpoint if they were to sever ties with the former no.2 draft pick.

“I don’t think enough people are aware, the contract he’s on is pretty slim,” Hagdorn added.

“It was very performance based. He had to be playing football to be getting paid well, it was high money per game, it was conforming to some behavioural requirements.

“If Fremantle are going to do a very compassionate arrangement to allow and help Jesse Hogan to continue to receive money while he he’s going to need some assistance through his mental health circumstances, Fremantle and his management will have to come to some agreement.

“The contract he’s on is not offering a lot of money.

“But if you can say it’s a health issue, it’s an injury equivalent and he might have been getting paid that amount per game, then they’ll have to come to some agreement.

“That’s where it’s very delicate.”

Hogan, 24, played just 12 games for Freo last season after 71 with the Demons over four years.
