Report: The new AFL rule change to set be trialed during pre-season

2020-02-06T05:16+11:00

The AFL will allow coaches more access to runners as part of a trial slated for the upcoming Marsh Community Series.

According to AFL Media, the rules are set to be relaxed after runners were only allowed on the field in the immediate aftermath of goals being scored during all matches in 2019.

During the first round of this year’s pre-season competition, runners will be permitted access to the ground twice a quarter for no longer than 90 seconds.

The report also states that during the final Marsh Community Series round, runners will be allowed on the ground three times per quarter for a maximum of a minute.

These rules are addition to the current rules in place during the home and away season.

"After a season review and additional feedback from coaches and clubs, we will trial increased access to runners through the Marsh Community Series," an AFL spokesperson told AFL Media on Wednesday.

"This will be limited on a per quarter basis."

The Marsh Community Series begins on February 21 as St Kilda take on Hawthorn at RSEA Park in Moorabbin.
