Why Scott Pendlebury is Collingwood's greatest ever player: Wallace

2020-02-07T15:58+11:00

Aussie Rules Hall of Famer Terry Wallace has bestowed Scott Pendlebury with the highest possible praise, suggesting he is Collingwood’s best ever player.

The 32-year-old enters his 15th year as a Magpie having played 301 games in the black and white.

Wallace believes Pendlebury’s body of work will see him surpass the likes of Nathan Buckley and Gordon Coventry this year.

WHO IS THE BEST EVER PLAYER AT YOUR CLUB?

“Last year on air I said I thought Scott Pendlebury had put himself right in the calculations to be Collingwood’s best player ever,” Wallace told SEN Afternoons.

“Scott has got six All-Australians under his belt, five Copeland Trophies, he’s a premiership player and a Norm Smith Medallist.

“This year he breaks the following records. He breaks Tony Shaw’s record for the most played as a Collingwood player.

“He breaks Nathan Buckley’s record as most games ever captained of Collingwood.

“He breaks Kevin Bartlett’s record for most games ever played at the MCG and that’s all in one season.

“I just thought I’d got to the stage where I thought he was in the calculations, I now think he is the number one player in the history of the Collingwood Football Club.

“I’ll give you this one for the great players of this era. Great players of era – 600 disposals in a season – there’s three players that have done it five times, Patrick Dangerfield, Josh Kennedy, Kane Cornes.

“Now, six times 600 disposals plus – Matthew Boyd, Scott West, Dane Swan. Now, seven times, Gary Ablett, Sam Mitchell and Joel Selwood. Eight times, one standalone, Scott Pendlebury.

“He, to me, is now Collingwood’s greatest player ever.”
