Collingwood looking to avoid unwanted history against Carlton on Sunday

2020-02-14T15:32+11:00

Collingwood will be looking to avoid dropping to 0-4 against Carlton’s AFLW side this Sunday afternoon at Ikon Park.

Should they lose, they will, coincidentally, join the Blues as the only team with four losses to another side – Adelaide is 4-0 against them, including last year’s Grand Final.

The Blues have enjoyed playing the Pies, outscoring them 102 – 54 across their three meetings, but this year could be a different story.

Collingwood has more talent on paper this year than they have in the previous three seasons and looked a much better side in Round 1 under new coach Steve Symonds as they dismantled West Coast.

Carlton meanwhile was incredibly impressive in their win over Richmond with inaccuracy in front of goal in the first half the only reason the scoreboard didn’t blow right out.

The game is unfortunately missing its juiciest narrative, with former Blues captain and star Pies signing Brianna Davey set to miss the game with a shin injury.

Davey defected for the Holden Centre after captaining Carlton to the 2019 AFLW Grand Final and winning their best and fairest.

Collingwood isn’t the only team Carlton has an unbeaten record against, holding three wins over the Giants.

Brisbane and Adelaide have also never lost to GWS, holding 3-0 and 2-1-0 records over them respectively.

The Crows have won two of the three AFLW premierships and have asserted their dominance across the competition.

As well as Carlton and GWS, they also have never lost to Fremantle. Brisbane has the best record over Adelaide at 3-1, with the only loss coming in the inaugural Grand Final.

The Lions upset the reigning premiers in Round 1, ending a run of eight consecutive Adelaide victories.
