Report: Club and management set to begin negotiations over Beams' Collingwood exit

2020-02-15T10:27+11:00

Dayne Beams won’t play for Collingwood again and his management are set to be begin negotiations on a settlement with the club, according to the Herald Sun.

The report states both club and player concede that his career is over despite the 177-game midfielder still having three years left to run on his contract.

Beams returned to Collingwood from Brisbane in 2018 in a deal that saw the Pies give up two high draft picks but the explosive midfielder only managed to play nine games in his first season back at the club.

The 30-year-old was involved in a car crash on Friday, with the club confirming he had suffered minor injuries.

“Collingwood can confirm that Dayne Beams was involved in a motor vehicle accident yesterday afternoon,” the Magpies said in a statement on Friday.

“Dayne was admitted to hospital with minor injuries from the incident. He remained in hospital overnight.”

The Herald Sun report Beams has “barely stepped foot inside the club” for months after taking leave in December to deal with mental health issues.

He also had hip and shoulder surgery during an injury-interrupted first season back at the Pies.
