Why Lions draftee has a “pretty big chip on his shoulder”

2020-02-20T12:57+11:00

Deven Robertson has a “pretty big chip on his shoulder” entering his debut season at Brisbane.

Robertson, who captained Western Australia to last year's Under 18 National Championships title while winning the Larke Medal as the competition’s best player, admitted he was left embarrassed after being overlooked in the first round of last year’s draft.

The Lions swooped on the big-bodied midfielder with pick No.22 in what could prove a draft steal.

Brisbane vice-captain Harris Andrews says the 18-year-old is eager to prove recruiters wrong having been touted by some as a top 10 prospect.

“He is a really good character to have around the footy club,” Andrews told SEN Breakfast.

“Seeing the way his draft night turned out he came up to Brisbane with a pretty big chip on his shoulder, he’s really cracked in over the summer to eventually prove all the draft recruiters wrong.

“He’s a ripper fella and looking forward to seeing what he can do in years to come.”

Brisbane travel to Moreton Bay to face Port Adelaide in their opening Marsh Community Series match on Sunday.
