The one player from all 18 clubs Kane Cornes would franchise

2020-02-21T12:12+11:00

After Dwayne Russell proposed the idea of teams being allowed to have a franchise player who they pay outside of the salary cap, Kane Cornes has gone through all 18 teams and named who he would franchise.

Russell believes the idea would allow teams to reward their best players, give them greater cap flexibility and also create a little more drama in the trade period, with teams able to offer up the franchise tag to players from other sides.

“It could have easily been Eric Hipwood or Lachie Neale, it could have been Jarrod Berry or Hugh McCluggage, Brisbane were hard. I like their list. It’s a good young list.”

“I’m worried for the Gold Coast. I was looking through and I found it really hard to come up with a marquee player for the Suns. You can’t go young. You can’t go Jack Lukosius, you can’t go Izak Rankine, you can’t go Noah Anderson or Matt Rowell, so I went David Swallow.”

“I went Wingard with some trepidation. I don’t know, it wasn’t easy. Tom Mitchell won a Brownlow, but I think Wingard is their marquee player.”
