Kane Cornes' top 8 prediction and premiership tip

2020-02-27T13:25+11:00

Kane Cornes has named his top eight and premiers for the 2020 AFL season.

The former Port Adelaide midfielder is expecting Brisbane, Essendon and Geelong to slide out of the top eight, with Port Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne taking their spots.

Cornes admits he was really impressed with the Lions’ training when he was invited down to have a look at them, but still feels the top-two team from 2019 will be on the slide.

“I was really impressed with the way they are going about their work, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to automatically play finals,” he told SEN SA Breakfast.

“History would say one team from the top four misses finals the next year. I think it is Brisbane.”

As for the top eight, Cornes has West Coast on top and winning the premiership.

“They’ve just added a top 10 midfielder to their already unbelievable midfield mix. Josh Kennedy hasn’t done a pre-season in about five years, he’s completed a pre-season,” Cornes said.

“Jack Darling is I think the best mobile forward in the game, Nic Naitanui is I think the best ruckman in the game when he is up and running.

“They play 11 games at a place where it’s really hard to win. They’ll finish top two, get two home finals, go through to the Grand Final and do it again.”
