Suns provide update on Dew contract status

2020-02-27T14:47+11:00

Gold Coast GM of Football Jon Haines says negotiations with coach Stuart Dew over a contract extension are progressing well.

Dew recently told AFL.com.au’s Damian Barrett that he was close to re-signing with the Suns as he continues to oversee their extensive rebuild.

The 40-year-old has won just seven games in two seasons, but access to a host of top-end draft picks could see the expansion club improve in the coming years.

Haines is confident a deal will be agreed with Dew who is out of contract at the end of 2020.

“Stability has been the hallmark of all the good clubs over the journey,” Haines told SEN’s Dwayne’s World.

“The negotiations with Stuey have been ongoing for a little while now and all parties are really happy where it is at – (the) club, Stuey and Stuey’s management group.

“We’re really confident that will get done at the right point in time and we’re really comfortable where it is at.”

Dew will take plenty of positives from Gold Coast’s 68-point win over perennial finalist Geelong in their opening Marsh Series match as they look ahead to their next clash with Adelaide in Noarlunga on March 6.
