The unfortunate situation surrounding North Melbourne’s Ben Jacobs

2020-03-05T09:01+11:00

Ben Jacobs’ career remains at the crossroads as he continues to deal with severe concussion issues.

The midfielder has not played for North Melbourne since Round 16 of the 2018 season but even after all this time, his situation has barely improved.

SEN’s Chief Sports Reporter Sam Edmund provided some details on what the 28-year-old has been doing in a bid to overcome his difficulties.

“He’s almost the forgotten man, Ben Jacobs,” Edmunds said on SEN Breakfast.

“His situation at the moment - unfortunately for him, North Melbourne and his family - is a pretty dire one.

“He comes in and trains but then they won’t see him for two or three days after he trains. It just knocks him for six.

“He’s getting pain, headaches linked to concussion, pain behind his eyes and sinuses, across his forehead, severe pain. He can’t train consistently at all.

“He’s seen something like 10 different specialists from ear, nose and throat specialists to brain specialists to alternative options like stem cell therapy.

“What I’m told is there’s nothing North Melbourne haven’t considered, on top of what Jacobs and his own family are doing.

“Ben Jacobs, unfortunately at the moment, you’d have to say he’s at the crossroads.”

Jacobs missed all of 2017 with a stress fracture in his foot, but came back and starred as a tagger in 2018, before he was struck down with concussion which has ravaged him ever since.

He has played 90 AFL games for both Port Adelaide and the Roos in a career that dates back to 2011.
