GWS football department in lockdown amid coronavirus concerns: Edmund

2020-03-10T08:15+11:00

SEN’s chief sports reporter Sam Edmund has revealed GWS’ football department is in lockdown amid coronavirus concerns.

It comes as a Fremantle player was sent for precautionary testing after making contact with a friend who travelled to China earlier this year.

Edmund says the department has been shut down for a “two to three-week period”.

“Clubs are doing their due diligence. They are simply trying to minimise the risk,” Edmund told SEN Breakfast.

“GWS at the moment have locked down their football department. As of yesterday, no visitor can enter the GWS football department.

“As we understand it … they’ve locked the doors as of yesterday for a two to three-week period, just simply to minimise the risk of exposure to players and staff.

“You can come in off the street and go to reception and the gift shop. Players are free to go about their day-to-day business with common sense at the moment.

“They won’t be on their own the Giants, Sydney are also active in this space. A number of clubs will be working on contingency plans.”

The China match between St Kilda and Port Adelaide was rescheduled to Marvel Stadium last week due to the coronavirus outbreak.
