Blues confirm Ikon Park is available for AFL games

2020-03-18T09:07+11:00

Carlton CEO Cain Liddle says that Ikon Park is available if the AFL wants to relocate games there as the season goes on amid the coronavirus situation.

The Blues are happy to make the ground, which has an “elite” playing surface, available if required.

“Ikon Park is definitely available and the AFL have reached out with a whole range of different questions,” Liddle told SEN Breakfast.

“Our biggest concerns about Ikon Park relate to the supporter experience. The fact that the supporter amenities haven’t been upgraded for so long and they also relate to capacity.

“Unfortunately right now neither of those two things are issues. We’ve got an elite surface that we dug up and replaced two years ago and I’m constantly receiving feedback from players and officials about the quality of that.

“The player surface, which ultimately is the most important right now, is elite and the ground is available.

“We’ll mobilise whatever it is we need to mobilise to assist them in what they need to do.”

Liddle added that his recommendation was to play games during the day, as the lighting situation at Ikon Park remains average at best, as has been seen across the AFLW season.
