The Demons set an unwanted record in 2019 ... and it got worse in 2020

2020-03-24T09:24+11:00

Melbourne’s forward line completely broke down in 2019, going from one of the highest scoring teams to one of the lowest, despite maintaining a high rate of inside 50s.

Garry Lyon has revealed that the Demons broke the record for worst ever scoring percentage from inside 50s in 2019.

“They recorded last year the worst ever scores per inside 50 percentage ever. It was 38 per cent,” he told SEN Breakfast.

“That’s the amount of times the ball goes inside your 50, and you’re scoring at 38 per cent.”

Unfortunately for Melbourne supporters that record they set last year remains just as big a problem.

“It was the lowest ever record last year. Guess what happened in Round 1? They went below that again against the Eagles,” he said.

“They had 10 more inside 50s than the Eagles. At least they have something to work on over the break.”

Melbourne had 45 inside 50s, to West Coast’s 35, for only 18 scoring shots.
