Riewoldt names his top 10 Richmond players

2020-04-07T04:48+10:00

Two-time premiership player Jack Riewoldt has unveiled his top 10 Richmond players since 1987, singling out Shane Edwards for specific praise.

The 31-year-old named Dustin Martin as the best player in a list that includes the likes of Matthew Richardson, Trent Cotchin, Alex Rance and Brett Deledio.

But it was Shane Edwards who Riewoldt held in particularly high regard.

“(He’s) arguably the best indigenous player to ever play for Richmond,” Riewoldt told Fox Footy Live.

“I think he’s one of the most, if not the most underrated player I’ve ever played with.

“You’ve just got to watch the big games that we played in, both the Grand Finals he arguably could’ve won the Norm Smith.

“He’s a bit similar to Shaun Burgoyne the fact that when we had a lot of injuries at the start of last year down back we had the ability to push him down back we sort of lost a bit of leadership with (Alex Rance) going so we shifted Shane down there, but if we need something in the middle we’ll always throw to him if we need him up forward we’ll put him there as well and he can play anywhere.

“He’s as good a handball as I’ve ever seen too, he’s an unbelievable handball.”

Like Riewoldt, Edwards has played in both of Richmond 2017 and 2019 premierships, as well as earning All-Australian honours in 2018.
