Clarkson NOT at 1: Hasleby's top 7 current coaches

2020-04-21T13:03+10:00

Former Fremantle midfielder Paul Hasleby has named his top seven current AFL coaches.

Surprisingly, Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson has not come in at number one, despite winning four of the last 11 premierships.

See Hasleby’s top seven coaches below from Sportsday WA:

7. Nathan Buckley (Collingwood)

“He turned his career around and he survived, he got to a Grand Final. He hasn’t got the premiership as a player or a coach yet, but his consistency has been very good in the last four years.”

6. Chris Fagan (Brisbane)

“He hasn’t achieved too much, but what he’s done with that young group at Brisbane, many coaches have failed there and he’s had success. They went a long way last year and finished second on the ladder.”

5. Chris Scott (Geelong)

“He got a premiership early in his coaching tenure with Geelong and his consistency since then has been unbelievable. He’s re-shaped the list on a couple of occasions and they still finish up the top of the tree.”

4. John Longmire (Sydney)

“He has a premiership with the Swans and like Chris Scott he has been so consistent and he keeps getting them into finals footy and that’s what it is all about.”

3. Adam Simpson (West Coast)

“He’s lost a Grand Final, he’s won a Grand Final as coach his name is Adam Simpson. He’s done a terrific job rebuilding the West Coast Eagles through his tenure.”

2. Alastair Clarkson (Hawthorn)

“He’s got four premierships. He did win one in 2008 and then struggled with a list that probably should have won more through that time, he regrouped, he got the threepeat as we know through 2013, 2014 and 2015.”

1. Damien Hardwick (Richmond)

“I’ve got Hardwick at one who has gone past (Clarkson). I think he’s more of a modern day coach. What he’s done with Richmond and the playing group he’s had through his time, he’s got two premierships, they were favourite to win the third one and were knocked out by Collingwood. I think there’s more to come and when it’s all said and done, I think he’s going to have at least four premierships alongside Alastair Clarkson, maybe even five with this Richmond team.”
