Port Adelaide CEO backflips on exit date: Rucci

2020-05-13T10:10+10:00

Veteran football journalist Michalengelo Rucci believes Port Adelaide CEO Keith Thomas will continue in the role until at least 2021 after originally announcing his intention to depart at the end of this year.

Despite intending to finish at the end of 2020, Rucci said on SEN SA Breakfast that he’s keen to continue amid the current COVID-19 crisis.

“At a recent Port Adelaide board meeting, Keith Thomas has offered to go on another year as chief executive," he told Kane Cornes and Andrew Hayes.

“He has put up his hand to go on for another year, it’ll be interesting how that one plays out because Port Adelaide’s reaction was that there was a fair bit to get through this year before thinking about next year.

In a club statement released late last year, Thomas said it felt like the “absolute perfect” to find a new CEO at the end of 2020.

“After more than eight years as CEO of this great club, now feels like the absolute perfect time to start the process of bringing in a new CEO to take Port Adelaide forward beyond 2020,” Thomas said in December.

“I have been in discussion with chairman David Koch for some time and we have both agreed this is the best outcome for me personally and, most importantly, for the football club.”
