The demand West Coast must make to the AFL

2020-05-14T10:55+10:00

Due to strict border restrictions in Western Australia, West Coast will be forced to relocate for the early part of the season.

The Eagles are looking to move its entire football department to the Gold Coast where they would train and play matches at Metricon Stadium.

North Melbourne great David King says West Coast should demand to play their final four games at Optus Stadium to balance out the inconvenience of moving to the east coast.

“The big discussion point will be what is a home game for the West Coast Eagles right now? Are you considering a game on the Gold Coast a home game?” King told SEN’s Whateley.

“I do agree that the bulk of the games should be at the Gold Coast, if they play eight games in six weeks maybe five of them, potentially six, at the Gold Coast with a couple of travels in there. I think that’s doable and that’s feasible.

“If I was Adam Simpson, I’d be saying, ‘Let’s get that last month of home and away football played at home, let’s get what Richmond got last year when they got seven in a year’.

“You’re not going to get seven, that was a one-off, but let’s aim for four in a row, and I think that gives you the perfect preparation if you are in a position to challenge.”

Port Adelaide and Adelaide also look set to relocate to help reboot the 2020 season.
