Corey Enright will go down as one of Geelong’s greatest ever players – but is he still underrated?
David King argued that Enright, a triple premiership player and six-time All-Australian, is “undersold” as a player given what he achieved over 16 seasons.
The champion defender is the Cats’ all-time games record holder and is also a two-time best and fairest winner – both in premiership years.
“Of the top 25 players of the last 25 years I had Corey Enright in there,” King told SEN’s Whateley.
“I think he’s still undersold as an AFL player, as how good a player Corey Enright was.”
King also singled out praise for Adelaide champion Andrew McLeod who, along with Enright, is regarded as one of the best half-back flankers the game has seen.
“He (McLeod) destroyed us as a midfielder in the 1998 Grand Final,” King said.
“You talk about cruising speeds of the great horses … Andrew McLeod could be going flat out and looked like he had another gear to go to – he was a glorious performer to watch.”
McLeod and four-time premiership Hawk Luke Hodge were voted as the two half-back flankers in SEN’s Greatest All-Australian team of the AFL era.
