Bob Murphy and Andy Maher have named their ‘Mount Rushmore’ for Carlton.
For those unaware, they are ranking the top four people (players, coaches or others) who symbolise the heart, soul and the spirit, those who have ignited the imagination and enhanced the foundation of the clubs they have represented – in Andy’s words. The four people who tell the story of the football club - in Bob's words.
They're not necessarily just the four best players the club has ever had.
SEN Drive’s Carlton Mount Rushmore: Stephen Kernahan, John Nicholls, Alex Jesaulenko, Bruce Doull
Passionate Blues man Andy Maher said he wished he could slot one of Sergio or Stephen Silvagni in there, but is backing his four.
“There’s enormous sadness that there’s not a Silvagni there … there’s so many, but Kernahan, Nicholls, Jesaulenko and Doull,” Maher said.
Kernahan captained the Blues between 1987 and 1997, leading the club’s goal kicking 11 times and winning three best and fairests.
Jesaulenko won four premierships with the Blues and captained the side, while Doull won four best and fairests in his 356-game career.
Nicholls speaks for himself, given the club’s best and fairest medal is named in his honour.
