Geelong president Colin Carter says a “hopelessly conflicted” Eddie McGuire is in no position to comment on the club’s handling of Jack Steven’s situation.
McGuire believes greater transparency from the Cats would be an “easy solution” to quell speculation surrounding Steven's stabbing incident.
Speaking to The Herald Sun, Carter expects an apology from his Collingwood counterpart.
"Do you want a polite answer or the impolite answer from me or both?" Carter said.
"The polite answer is I'm disappointed Eddie raises this in a public forum, and I can only imagine how he would react if I questioned publicly how Collingwood was handling an issue with one of its players.
"My less polite answer is it's none of his business.
"It's one of the examples where his roles in media and as a club president get hopelessly conflicted. Eddie is decent guy and I'm sure that he will phone and apologise."
Geelong CEO Brian Cook echoed Carter’s thoughts.
“We wouldn’t make a comment about the treatment of a Collingwood player, it’s none of our business, but as a media person it is,” Cook told Fox Footy.
“I think he walks a really delicate path at times.”
Steven, 30, was discharged from hospital during the week after suffering the chest wound last weekend.
