Cotchin and Buckley team up for DrinkWise message

2020-05-25T12:00+10:00

Richmond skipper Trent Cotchin and Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley are the faces of a new DrinkWise campaign launching today.

The TV ad has the pair giving a strong message to the public as we collectively "come off the bench" as a community.

"We've all done a great job at staying safe, but we have to keep looking after one another" says Cotchin in the commercial.

Buckley's message is also one of how we can maintain positivity as the next phase of our comeback.

"Stay healthy and exercise. And if you're having a drink, make sure it's in moderation."

DrinkWise recently asked a nationally representative sample of 1000 adult drinkers about their experiences of purchasing and drinking at home and their self-care practices during isolation:

• On average, Australians are choosing to drink on three occasions during the week vs. two times a week (pre pandemic), but when they do drink they are consuming the same amount as pre-pandemic occasions and within the recommended guidelines.
• Those aged 18-24 were most likely to have decreased their consumption, which can largely be attributed to the fact they typically drink when they go out socialising, and have of course not been able to.

Those adults who have been drinking more frequently attributed it to: enjoying a drink while cooking (38%), boredom (36%), anxiety or stress around job / income (29%) – however, we are also seeing people focusing on exercising and taking care of their mental health.
