Garry Lyon is concerned about Geelong’s capability of kicking a winning score in September.
Without suspended star forward Tom Hawkins, the Cats were overrun by Richmond in last year’s preliminary final after finishing the home and away season as minor premiers.
Chris Scott’s side were the second highest scorers in 2019 but averaged just eight goals from their two finals defeats to the Tigers and Collingwood.
“I still have this concern about their (Geelong’s) capacity to kick a score that’s going to win them big finals, Lyon told SEN Breakfast.
“In the finals they kicked nine goals when they lost (to Richmond), they beat West Coast by kicking 13 and they lost to Collingwood and kicked only seven.
“In their losing finals at the 'G they kicked seven and nine, that’s my concern.”
Geelong have fallen at the preliminary final hurdle in four of the last seven seasons.
They restart their 2020 campaign against Hawthorn at GMHBA Stadium on June 12.
