Who should be on Geelong's Mount Rushmore?

2020-05-28T15:40+10:00

Bob Murphy and Andy Maher have named their ‘Mount Rushmore’ for Geelong.

For those unaware, they are ranking the top four people (players, coaches or others) who symbolise the heart, soul and the spirit, those who have ignited the imagination and enhanced the foundation of the clubs they have represented – in Andy’s words. The four people who tell the story of the football club - in Bob's words.

They're not necessarily just the four best players the club has ever had.

Maher’s vote for the final spot went to Reg Hickey, but the vote was put to the public where the overwhelming response suggested Ablett Jnr should get in.

Ablett Snr kicked over 1000 goals for the Cats and made four All-Australian teams.

Davis is a two-time premiership Cat and a member of the club’s team of the century.

Farmer remains one of the game’s greatest ever ruckmen and a two-time Geelong best and fairest winner.

Ablett Jnr one a Brownlow Medal in Geelong colours and will go down as one of the greatest midfielders of the modern era.
