If Joe Daniher decides to leave Essendon at season’s end, which club would be the best fit?
Speaking on Channel Nine’s Footy Classified, Kane Cornes listed five clubs that could do with Daniher’s services with Sydney – the club the forward requested a trade to last year – not being one of them.
"You can't have (Sam) Reid, (Lance) Franklin and Daniher, all injury-prone, in your forward line,” Cornes said.
"I don't expect them (Sydney) to be in the premiership window moving forward.”
Below are the five clubs Cornes floated that would be a good fit for Daniher:
Melbourne
"Melbourne’s at the top of the list.
"When you look at their leading goal scorer it was Petracca on 22, you can’t have that as a key forward.
"If Melbourne think that they are in the (premiership) window, which clearly they do, there’s a role there as a backup ruckman as well."
Adelaide
"Tex (Taylor Walker) is 31, how long has he got left?
"I just think Adelaide needs someone who can sell tickets, I don’t think it’s going to be a happy time at Adelaide for the next three to four years."
Collingwood
"I think Daniher is a better fit than Mason Cox in that forward line as the key target."
Geelong
"With Tom Hawkins and Gary Ablett their leading goal scorers last year, Hawkins is about to turn 32, so Geelong always look to top up and stay at the top of the ladder.
"Perhaps Joe’s a fit there."
Hawthorn
"Clearly they went after Jonathon Patton to fill a need there, it’s dependant on his output.
"But with (Luke) Breust and (Jack) Gunston getting up there in age as well I think there’s a fit there at the Hawks."
Daniher, 26, is out of contract at the Bombers and hasn't played since Round 9 last season due to a troublesome groin injury.
