"Powerful" Pies capable of taking down Richmond

2020-06-04T14:29+10:00

Richmond versus Collingwood will not only kick off the resumption of the AFL season, but it looms as one of the most exciting games of the entire year.

Former Western Bulldogs captain Brad Johnson believes the Magpies are every chance to upset the reigning premiers at the MCG, having seen them up close in Round 1.

Collingwood comfortably dispatched a fellow highly rated side in the Western Bulldogs in Round 1, beating them by 52 points.

“I know Collingwood’s got a few little injuries and players will need to get through that, but overall they were extremely powerful (in Round 1),” Johnson told SEN’s Dwayne’s World.

“Watching them live in Round 1, they didn’t surprise me, but you sort of sat back and said wow, this is powerful.

“That was super impressive. (Brodie Grundy’s) power running out of the centre bounce, we talk about Dean Cox and what he used to do from a running point of view, winning the ball and linking up, Grundy does it equally as well as what Cox used to do when he was playing.

“That’s the level he’s got to and he’s going to be difficult to stop and if he can get fired up again, I think Collingwood can get over the Tiges.”

Both teams sit at 1-0 and in a reduced season, every single win will be extremely important, especially coming up against a fellow premiership contender.
