“Temperamental soul” McLeod yet to respond to Crows chiefs

2020-06-05T14:05+10:00

Adelaide board member Rod Jameson says the Crows are eager to talk to Andrew McLeod after he doubled down on his criticism of the club’s culture.

According to Jameson, Adelaide chairman Rob Chapman and CEO Andrew Fagan have both reached out to McLeod without response.

“I probably need to clarify; he has not responded to Rob Chapman and he has not responded to Andrew Fagan as yet,” Jameson told SEN’s Dwayne’s World.

“He has spoken to Mark Ricciuto and I did speak to him also the other day too. I know Rooey (Ricciuto) has followed him up again after his commentary yesterday and he has not heard back.

“He (McLeod) is a temperamental soul but we want him around (the club), he is very much a part of what we want.

“We’re as keen as anyone to get Andrew in to have a chat … and if there are any other past players or officials that feel the same it’s always been articulated in our messaging, particularly through our past players and officials, that we’re always available to have a chat to them.”

Jameson is aware the hard work done by Adelaide's previous generation to establish the club’s foundations is in danger of eroding because of McLeod’s comments.

“Your always mindful of it … totally. Everyone is doing a lot of work. It’s another piece we have to acknowledge,” he said.

“Sometimes Andrew’s actions don’t reflect what he says because he’s around the club and he’s in the club all the time. So I guess the underlying unfortunate outcome of this is that a lot of people within the club that have heard his commentary are really upset, it’s hurt a lot of people.

“We are always trying to make things better and if you don’t know or you don’t understand what those issue or challenges are, then how can you go about remedying?

“We’re empathetic to how Andrew is feeling and what we want to know what they are. We’re super engaged and keen to understand.”

McLeod won the Norm Smith Medal in both of Adelaide’s premierships in 1997 and 1998.

The former Crows skipper won three best and fairests and was named All-Australian five times in a decorated 340-game career.
