The best football Dennis Cometti has ever seen

2020-06-05T16:30+10:00

Legendary AFL broadcaster Dennis Cometti is a huge fan of State of Origin football.

Speaking on SEN’s Dwayne’s World, Cometti says state representative matches in the late 1950s and early 1960s is the “best football” he ever witnessed.

“In many respects what happened yesterday was more to do with players from the late 50s and early 60s for me, I just loved them,” Cometti said.

“I don’t think that footy has changed that much and the players haven’t changed that much either.

“The game has, they’ve made it far more defensive, but when I think of the best football I ever saw it was certainly State of Origin.

“I’m saying WA v Victoria, but South Australia and Victoria a bit after that was just as good. That’s the best football I’ve seen.

“The people who made up football, who took it and sort of refined it, that was what they were chasing.”

Cometti’s iconic 40-year broadcasting career was recognised with induction into the Australian Football Hall of Fame on Thursday night.
