Muscat appointed head coach of European club

2020-06-06T11:50+10:00

Kevin Muscat has been appointed head coach of Belgian Pro League club Sint-Truiden.

The former Melbourne Victory boss was officially unveiled by the Belgian side after initially assuming the role of technical analyst in December last year.

It’s Muscat’s first coaching gig since departing the Victory following a successful six-year tenure.

“I’m really excited to take on this challenge with a really good football club and really good people,” Muscat told Sint-Truiden’s official website.

“I was fortunate to build a style of football, a philosophy that has been successful - albeit in another continent, in another country.

“But it certainly is something that has followed me in trying to win football games and win competitions.

“Albeit it’s very different to obviously being here in Belgium but I had a very successful stint as head coach in Melbourne.”

Muscat, 46, is the only Australian head coach of a men’s team in Europe.

Belgium's top-flight season was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
