Report: The Giants star who Victorian clubs believe is gettable

2020-06-18T09:03+10:00

Melbourne-based clubs believe star Giants defender Zac Williams is gettable at the end of 2020, according to the Herald Sun.

The 25-year-old becomes a restricted free agent at the end of the season and has the ability to play both in the back half as well as pushing into the midfield.

Williams’ manager Anthony McConville said his client was fully focused on just playing footy.

“Zac is pretty much keen to let his footy do the talking for most of the year before we know where things are heading,” he told the Herald Sun.

“Zac is happy at the Giants and as to what all contracts will look like down the track, we just don’t know where the goalposts are.”

All contracts are currently on hold due to the uncertainly about next year’s salary cap as a result of COVID-19.

GWS Giants coach Leon Cameron told SEN in February that he was well within his rights to explore his options.

“Our intent is to keep Zac for as long as we possibly can and we have got a good track record in the past few years and we’ll draw on that,” Cameron said.

“Zac is really happy, but every player has that right, especially when they come out in that free agency year. Players are going to look at their options.

“Whether it takes one more or two months or three months there will always be speculation on it until they sign, but the same with Stephen Coniglio and Lachie Whitfield and others we are confident he’ll stay at our club.”

Williams played in GWS' loss to North Melbourne on Sunday, collecting 15 touches and taking three marks.
