GWS “played like babies” after "rubbish" antics in Bulldogs loss

2020-06-22T15:20+10:00

Terry Wallace has heavily criticised GWS’ approach to Friday night’s loss to the Western Bulldogs.

In a spiteful encounter, the Giants made a concerted effort to go after Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli early in the match and had seven players fined after a scuffle broke out at three-quarter time.

“It started right from the start of the game when Nick Haynes went over to toss the coin, not as the captain just to go over and eyeball Marcus Bontempelli. The predictable push and shove that came along after that was outrageous,” Wallace told SEN’s Dwayne’s World.

“(Harry) Perryman fined $500, (Brent) Daniels $500, (Daniel) Lloyd $500, (Aiden) Corr $500, (Jeremy) Finlayson $500, (Callan) Ward $500 and (Heath) Shaw $500 for a $3500 bill to the AFL – not for one second did they follow it up with any sort of action on the field.

“It was all just rubbish as far as I’m concerned.

“They kicked 1.4 (to half-time) which was their lowest score since their first year in the competition when they were all babies and on Friday night in all honestly, they played like babies.

“Were there excuses with injuries with (Toby) Greene, (Josh) Kelly and (Lachie) Whitfield out? There always seems to be a reason with GWS because they rely on personnel too heavily. They don’t play and win against the odds like other sides do in this competition.

“They are still unreliable; they are still unpredictable, and they were unpredictable on Grand Final day. I’m just wondering whether anything will change with this outfit because that was disappointing on Friday night.”

GWS will look for a swift response against Collingwood at Giants Stadium on Friday night.
