Does this Bulldogs recruit need to “pick up his game”?

2020-06-26T09:55+10:00

Josh Bruce has had a quiet start to his Western Bulldogs career.

Brue, who joined the Bulldogs on a four-year deal from St Kilda during last year’s trade period, has managed just two goals in four games so far.

Former Bulldogs coach Terry Wallace says Bruce needs to up his game with the likes of Joshua Schache and Tory Dickson waiting in the wings.

“Absolutely (there are concerns). You’re there to kick goals, you’re there to a part of a functioning forward line unit which hasn’t really quite got itself going yet,” Wallace told SEN’s The Match Committee.

“Even last week (against GWS) they were clunky down that end. They were good enough defensively to be able to handle GWS but I wouldn’t have thought that their attack was fluent.

“He needs to pick up his game. I don’t think that there’s any doubt that he needs to pick up his game.

“He’s been brought in and has gone past others, whether that’s a Schache, whether that’s (Jackson) Trengove, those type of players, he’s gone past them straight away.

“He’s got to show something.”

The Bulldogs beat Sydney on Thursday night to improve to 2-2 after four rounds with Bruce returning one goal from just three kicks.

The former Saint has had 11 kicks, taken six marks and kicked 2.2 in four games for his new club but his subpar form hasn't detracted from the Dogs winning their last two on the trot.
