Murphy excited by Blues forward line

Carlton midfielder Marc Murphy says he's excited by the development of Levi Casboult and Mitch McGovern in Carlton's forward line.

The Blues defeated Essendon by one point on Saturday night at the MCG and the former club captain told AFL Nation the two talls were starting to see the fruits of their labour.

“They’ve only been together for not a long period of time but they’re working really hard on their game and their connection at training," he said.

“I think they’re starting to see the benefit of that.

“They’re pretty handy when you get the ball and you know those guys are in there creating a contest and at the very least bringing it to ground.

“Add Harry McKay to that hopefully next week and it’s a pretty dangerous forward line."

Casboult slotted three goals while McGovern registered two in the club's second win of the season.

Murphy said Carlton's close victory over Geelong last weekend boosted the side's confidence and helped them when the contest got tight on Saturday night.

“Last week was huge for our confidence. It’s probably one of the hardest trips to go down there and win," he said.

“Tonight we probably butchered it a little bit and we should’ve been a little further in front but they came at us really well in the last.

“To fight back and get the win was great."
