Is Collingwood star Jordan De Goey a million-dollar a season player?
It’s been a subdued start to 2020 for De Goey who is currently without a manager and is set to come out of contract at season’s end.
Speaking on Channel Nine’s Footy Classified, Port Adelaide champion Kane Cornes says De Goey’s numbers do not warrant such a lucrative deal.
“I just think he needs to be put under the spotlight a little bit,” Cornes said.
“He is not a million-dollar player. If he is asking for a million dollars you can’t be averaging 14 disposals, have two tackles and kick half a goal a game.
“He didn’t have a tackle again on Friday night, he touched it 10 times, he didn’t kick a goal – he is still inaccurate in front of goal, so he is unreliable there. He’s kicked 2.6 for the year.
“He needs to be working harder and if he’s not getting the ball, he needs to apply fierce defensive pressure.
“He needs a lift in form and the Pies need it badly.”
De Goey, 24, rejected two substantial offers from North Melbourne and St Kilda to re-sign with the Magpies for a further two years in 2018.
