Tom Green climbing the ranks fast in elite Giants midfield

2020-06-30T13:45+10:00

Tom Green was so impressive in his side’s win over Collingwood last Friday night that Garry Lyon has already dubbed him ‘Clean’ Tom Green.

This is because of his composure in the heat of the final quarter, where he was instrumental in the Giants winning key clearances and holding on for a tight win.

He finished with 18 disposals and a goal for the game and was rewarded with the Rising Star nomination for Round 4 and four votes in the MEGT Australia Rookie of the Year award from Terry Wallace.

Green said he felt more comfortable at AFL level as the game went on.

“I think my first game I was a little bit all over the place with nerves on my debut but certainly on Friday night I felt a lot more comfortable,” Green told the Giants’ website.

“As the game went on, I really felt like I started to find my feet and hopefully I can keep playing AFL and keep being more comfortable and being able to contribute to the team all year.”

Green has impressed the Giants so much that he has started to take centre bounce attendances away from captain Stephen Coniglio and former skipper Callan Ward – reminder: he’s only played two games.
