The only question that remains unanswered on Brisbane's flag chances

2020-07-08T16:43+10:00

Brisbane look to be a genuine premiership threat in 2020.

A convincing win over the previously unbeaten Port Adelaide – their fourth on the trot - saw the Lions move to equal top spot on the ladder.

Tougher tests await for Chris Fagan’s side with Geelong (SCG) and GWS (Spotless Stadium) to come over the fortnight.

Speaking on SEN Breakfast, Garry Lyon has one unanswered question regarding Brisbane’s flag credentials – and it involves their key forwards.

“That’s the only question that remains unanswered from a Brisbane point of view for me. Whether or not we can trust (them),” Lyon said.

“Could you sit here on July the 8th and say, ‘I can trust Daniel McStay on the biggest stage on Grand Final day to play in the manner to be able to win you a premiership’.

“McStay in the form that he had on the weekend is almost perfect for what you need – he’s mobile, he’s big enough, and then you’ve got Eric Hipwood – I’ve seen him rip games to shreds in the space of 12 minutes, and then I’ve seen him almost sightless.

“That’s the only question that remains for me on Brisbane. All the other boxes are getting ticked.”

McStay and Hipwood took 15 marks between them in last week’s 37-point win over the Power at the Gabba.
