AFL pushing for more games in 32-day hub period

2020-07-09T17:35+10:00

The AFL is pushing for more games to be played in the 32-day hub period, according to SEN’s chief sports reporter Sam Edmund.

The initial plan was to finish Round 10 by the end of the 32 days with 45 games scheduled to take place.

But Edmund understands the league is looking to squeeze in 18 more games to help get to Round 12 before the hub phase concludes.

“A club has told me that the AFL has given them the word that they want to get to the end of Round 12 by the end of this 32-day expiry in a hub,” Edmund told SEN Drive.

“It was supposed to be 32 days, five games, that gets up to the end of Round 10.

“The AFL want to get to the end of Round 12, so that’s an extra two games.

“Instead of five games in 32 days … now the indication is they want there to be an extra two games in that 32-day block.”

All 10 Victorian clubs have entered hubs in Queensland and New South Wales after stage three lockdown restrictions were imposed by the Victorian Government.
