Why Wallace would consider shopping around senior Crows

2020-07-09T19:15+10:00

Terry Wallace has urged Adelaide to explore all options in a bid to rejuvenate their “slow” midfield.

The Crows are set to undergo an extensive rebuild under rookie coach Matthew Nicks and will look to revamp their list with top-end talent via the draft.

When asked on SEN’s The Match Committee whether he would shop around Matt or Brad Crouch at the end of the year, Wallace replied: “Yeah, I would. I’d throw Rory Sloane into that mix as well.”

“He (Sloane) is heart and soul and if he wants to stay, he stays. But they are too slow through the middle of the ground and if you can realign your football club and get some real value for one or two of those players, I would certainly look at it.

“Doesn’t mean you have to pull the trigger, but I’d certainly look at it.”

With the winless Crows floundering at the foot of the ladder, Wallace says certain senior players haven’t performed to the required level.

“I had them in my bottom four … but I’ve been extremely disappointed with the level of guys who I think are better players – (Rory) Laird, (Brodie) Smith, the Crouch brothers, that group of players,” he said.

“Everything always seems to get lumped on Tex (Taylor Walker), but that group of players - who have been close to All-Australian or high-end best and fairest-types for the footy club, I don’t think that they’ve done their bit to try and help them through.

“Now losing senior experience cost them a little bit, I don’t think it should have cost them anywhere near the way that they are playing their footy at the moment.”

Adelaide face West Coast at the Gabba on Saturday.
