Blues provide injury update on Harry McKay and Mitch McGovern

2020-07-27T15:15+10:00

Carlton Head of Football Brad Lloyd has provided an update on key forward pair Harry McKay and Mitch McGovern.

McKay suffered a knee injury in the lead up to their game against North Melbourne and was left out of the team, while McGovern hurt his hamstring early on in the match.

Lloyd said McKay was a chance to take on Hawthorn this Friday night, but McGovern will have to wait on scans.

“Harry had a bit of an odd one we didn’t get the response on the COVID test so he ended up training on his own and ended up having a little bit of a tweak of his knee there,” he told SEN’s Dwayne’s World.

“He’s out there running at the moment so hopefully he can get through the week and be right to go.

“Mitch will have some scans to see where that’s at, a bit of a tight hamstring, so it didn’t look major, but we’ll keep an eye on that one.”

Lloyd added there are a few players either on the injury list or in reserve that show the club is building some added depth.

“Charlie (Curnow) is obviously out for the year and (Caleb) Marchbank is starting to get through his rehab and recovery and won’t be too far off. There’s guys like Paddy Dow too,” he said.

“We feel like we’ve got some good strong players (outside the current 22). Zac Fisher was pretty good on the weekend in the (reserves) game, so we’ve got a few coming through.”

Lloyd also gave his thoughts on the treatment of Patrick Cripps by umpires among other issues.
