Three clubs remain under investigation for protocol breaches, one club rejects any wrongdoing

2020-07-30T09:15+10:00

CARLTON, Richmond and North Melbourne remain under investigation by the AFL for separate potential protocol breaches in the Queensland hubs.

All three clubs remain at risk of being fined by the league, but the Kangaroos are rejecting allegations they broke any rules.

It's believed North Melbourne received AFL permission for family members to attend the Roos’ Round 8 game against Carlton at the Gabba on July 25.

But when the AFL discovered via social media that wives and girlfriends were at the game they contacted the club demanding answers.

League officials even demanded the Kangaroos’ playing partners leave the Gabba during the game – a request the club denied, citing prior approval they now say they have evidence of.

It’s understood requests were also coming in from the partners of Melbourne players, who had spoken to their friends at North Melbourne, and understandably also wanted to go to the Demons’ match against Brisbane on Sunday.

The expectation is that the kangaroos will receive a warning, while any financial sanction will be served to Carlton and Richmond.

The Tigers are being looked at after the wife of a high-profile Richmond premiership player attended a beauty salon and then returned to the hub.

The Blues are being investigated after the grandparents of a player’s children took his kids to a Gold Coast theme park.

The AFL hopes its sanction, expected on Friday, will satisfy the Queensland Government, who has the season in its hands.

Some clubs have become aware of sections of the Queensland Government who are questioning why the state is taking the risk housing so many clubs and their families.

It comes as two teenage women triggered a public health alert in the state after returning from Victoria without self-isolating and since testing positive to COVID-19.
