Giants CEO confirms new Cameron deal

2020-07-31T13:35+10:00

GWS coach Leon Cameron will be at the helm for the next two years.

Giants CEO Dave Matthews confirmed on SEN Dwayne’s World that Cameron has agreed to a two-year extension that will lock him in until the end of 2022.

“I think he’s a terrific manager of people first and foremost and tactically we think he sees the game very, very well,” Matthews said.

“I know Jason McCartney has got a lot of confidence in him and so does everybody at the club.

“Is the scrutiny unfair? I think they’re quick to judge.

“We’ve beaten sides like Collingwood and Geelong who are genuine contenders, we’ve had a couple of slips along the way but we’ve still got an opportunity in front of us.

“He’s (re-signed for) 2021 and 2022 … so two years after this.”

Cameron guided GWS to their maiden Grand Final appearance last year and has an overall winning percentage of 55 from 151 games in charge.

The Giants sit in 12th spot ahead of Sunday’s game against Gold Coast.
