More Melbourne United players test positive for COVID-19

2020-08-02T15:54+10:00

More Melbourne United players have tested positive for COVID-19, ensuring both Melbourne NBL clubs remain in lockdown.

A total of 12 Melbourne United players have now tested positive after Mitch McCarron and Jo Lual-Acuil returned a positive test last week.

South East Melbourne Phoenix’s pre-season training will also remain suspended as a precaution and players will undergo tests.

“Our primary concern is the health and welfare of our players, staff and their families,” NBL Commissioner Jeremy Loeliger said in a statement.

“This is a challenging time for everyone concerned and we are working closely with the clubs and the Australian Basketball Players’ Association (ABPA) to provide support for all those affected.

“We are also working closely with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to manage the outbreak and limit any risk to the wider community.”

The NBL are yet to identify a starting date for the 2020-21 season.
