AFL "fed up" over club hub requests: Edmund

2020-08-06T12:39+10:00

A FED-UP AFL has told its clubs that all hub requests from players must now be directed through club CEOs.

The league has moved to stop the increasing amount of bizarre requests coming from players directly to senior AFL officials.

It’s believed one club had asked for an internal wall to be taken out at their resort, while a club captain was said to have been in contact with boss Gillon McLachlan about things he wanted.

Food is provided for players, but some have sought financial compensation for separate online food shopping orders.

The AFL is torn between their gratitude for players and the sacrifices they have made to keep the season afloat, and the potential for standards to slip among teams who fall out of finals contention.

But in a meeting today, the league made it clear it was no longer willing to be contacted by senior players over silly requests, which others view an abuse of power.

More than 400 family members flew into the Queensland hubs last Thursday in the wake of four hub breach sanctions being dished out by the AFL.

Collingwood, Richmond, Carlton and North Melbourne were all fined for breaking AFL-enforced hub rules.
