Key Dees to miss North Melbourne clash

2020-08-08T16:50+10:00

Melbourne captain Max Gawn and deputy Jack Viney will miss Sunday's match against North Melbourne due to injury.

Three-time All Australian Gawn has been withdrawn due to knee soreness and a torn muscle in his back.

Viney will miss due to the concussion he suffered in the Dees win against Adelaide on Wednesday night.

Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin told reporters the four-day turnaround made it challenging for both players to get up for the match.

"He has got a few sore spots, so with the short turnaround it's best to give (Gawn) a rest," Goodwin told reporters on Saturday.

"He carries a big load, Max, and it is a really important game for our footy club, but for his wellbeing and to make sure he gets through we will give him a spell."

Goodwin said he expected both to be free to play in next Saturday's clash with Collingwood.
