Jackson loving Weideman tandem as key young Demons take flight

2020-08-11T15:47+10:00

Melbourne’s forward line has gone through a lot of change in recent years, but their young key forward duo of Sam Weideman and Luke Jackson are already developing great chemistry.

The duo combined for five goals in Round 10 against Adelaide and looked equally impressive against the Kangaroos a week later.

Both were highly touted first-round draft picks - Weideman taken with pick nine back in 2015 and Jackson pick three in 2019.

Jackson says he’s learning the key forward craft fast having another young star alongside him.

“I love playing with Weideman. He tells me what to do in my role and gives some really good tips as well,” he told SEN’s Dwayne’s World.

“It’s really good learning off him and all the other forwards. I love playing with him and hopefully we can do it a lot longer.

“Me and (Weideman) work really well together in terms of who flies and who stays down.

“He’s really good at talking me through when to fly and when to block in there. All that kind of stuff he’s been really good and someone I’ll keep learning off over the coming years.”

Jackson earned the Round 10 Rising Star nomination and also polled votes in the MEGT Australia Rookie of the Year award.

The Demons take on Collingwood at the Gabba on Saturday evening.
