Tim Watson was full of praise for Sydney after they dismantled GWS on Thursday night.
The Swans secured their fourth win of the season when beating the Giants by 41 points at Optus Stadium with a team that had an average experience of just 68 games, almost 30 less than their more experienced opponents.
Watson says he loves the way that coach John Longmire has worked with the club’s youth and been able to change his game style to suit the type of players he has in the side.
“It’s about the utilisation of that talent,” he said on SEN Breakfast.
“You’ve got to cut your cloth accordingly and he’s done that.
“They used to play a different brand of football because they had different personnel, they had Buddy (Lance Franklin) in the forward line and that type of thing. Now, John has had to look at what he’s got at his disposal. He’s got a smaller team, they need to move the ball quicker otherwise they’ll give their forwards no chance to find space to score.
“They’ve been able to re-engineer themselves. Full credit to him and the players and the messaging. The players have been able to adapt to that.
“There’s a completely different style of football, that’s the great thing. They set this benchmark about competitiveness. Everything starts around the ball, you’ve got to be competitive, and they’re always that.
“They took it to another level and they just came up against a side last night that didn’t respond in those areas.
“As a team they contribute. The play their roles and to the team structure and they consistently deliver. Whether they win the game or not is another point.
“The fact that they always play to that standard is the great thing about this team under John.”
The Swans have won two of their past four and will look to improve their 4-7 record when they meet Fremantle at Optus Stadium on Saturday night.
