The club that should trade for Braydon Preuss

2020-08-24T08:53+10:00

Should Melbourne ruckman Braydon Preuss seek a new home in the trade period given he is stuck behind Max Gawn and Luke Jackson in the pecking order?

Garry Lyon and Tim Watson discussed it this morning on SEN Breakfast.

Lyon: “If I’m Braydon Preuss I’m not staying at Melbourne.”

Watson: “No, but where are you going though?”

Lyon: “Well whoever wants me.”

Watson: “He should be somewhere else as the first ruckman, Braydon Preuss. I’m not saying he’s the most cerebral big man out there in the game, I’m not saying he can jump over Nic Naitanui, but in terms of effectiveness and moving the ball and power he supplies around the ball, there’s not that many that can do that as well.”

Lyon: “Okay so what I want you to do is find the right home for him because there’s no reason for him to stay at Melbourne. I want you as his ‘agent’ to try and find a home for him.”

Watson: “I can do that easily. I’ve got one club right here ready to go. In fact, if he moved there now he might even be the premiership ruckman – Geelong.”

Lyon: “You think he’d be better than Rhys Stanley?”

Watson: “I think he’s absolutely better than Stanley. Maybe not as athletic as Stanley, not able to jump like Stanley, but in terms of effectiveness of what they need, I think he would be great for Geelong.”

Lyon: “It’s an interesting one, I wonder what Geelong supporters would think about that.”

Watson: “I understand Stanley is more athletic and all that, but I think specifically for the needs of Geelong, what they would like to have is some presence in their ruck going into this finals series and Preuss is huge, he’s physical, he only knows one way to play and that’s in an aggressive manner.

“I think that would give them an edge that they currently don’t have. I wouldn’t be surprised if other clubs came for him at the end of this year and there’s still that conversation that he doesn’t have a big tank, I understand that, but for needs specific to certain teams, I think he would be a great fit.”

Lyon: “He would look good at the Giants too wouldn’t he?”

Watson: “It wouldn’t be a silly move on his behalf.”
