Vale Bill Stephen

Fitzroy champion Bill Stephen has passed away at the age of 92.

Stephen played 162 games for the Roys from 1947 and 1957 and captain-coached the club in his final three seasons as a player.

He later coached Fitzroy on two more occasions in 1965 to 1970 and 1979 to 1980 and also took charge of Essendon from 1976 to 1977.

The small defender won two best and fairest awards in 1950 and 1954, represented Victoria on 14 occasions, was selected in Fitzroy’s Team of the Century and is a Brisbane Lions Hall of Famer.
